Admitted to the Roll of England and Wales in September 2003, Dan trained and practised as a commercial litigation solicitor with Legal 500 commercial practice located in the Thames Valley, Owen White under the head of litigation, Russell Ford. Dan’s remit was general commercial and franchising litigation.

Dan then chose to leave the law and in 2004 joined Legal Opportunities, which was a leading National recruitment agency before it merged with Global recruitment agency Hughes-Castell. Dan headed up the UK National team, which sourced candidates to all areas of the UK. His specific focus at Hughes-Castell was recruiting senior lawyers (associates and partners) Nationally. He also oversaw the recruitment of lawyers to the UAE region.

Dan set up Ellis-Wake in 2010 to provide a full senior legal recruitment service to law firms in London, the South East of England and also Internationally; focusing on placing associates and partners.

Dan meets regularly in the Law Society Reading Rooms and The Royal Exchange, EC3, London.
